Thanks to their effective, precise, and repeatable results, validated CAD systems are nowadays exploited as a valid aid during diagnostic procedures. Surgical simulation applications have become an essential part of surgical procedures as well as training, while research on the development of digital-twin applications in healthcare is continuously increasing, to deliver significant societal and health benefits. Similar important advances in the field of microscopy image analysis have been motivated by the advent of digital microscopes producing high-resolution digital images. Indeed, in the past thirty years the development of computerized systems that have helped pathologists in their analysis of images obtained by fluorescence, histochemical, and immunohistochemical labeling has become a main research focus for computer scientists and clinicians. State-of-the-art automatic microscopy image analysis systems automatically identify biological structures of interest and then try to reproduce the evaluation and quantification performed by expert pathologists and clinicians. These tools are much appreciated in the field for their potential to minimize the inherent subjectivity of manual analysis and to largely reduce the workload of clinicians via high-throughput analysis. This Special Issue intends to provide a comprehensive overview of recent, theoretical, and/or practical advances and new trends in biomedical/microscopy image enhancement and analysis, vision modelling, and general physiological models applied to biomedical/microscopy image processing and advanced visualization methods and devices, and to discuss their applications in the biological and medical fields. Keywords: BioMedical/microscopy image enhancement Biomedical/microscopy image quality assessment Biomedical/microscopy image analysis Computational approaches for citology and histology Computer-aided diagnosis Neuro imaging BioMedical/microscopy image databases Machine learning and artificial intelligence Image segmentation, registration, and fusion Interventional imaging systems Image-guided interventions and surgery Surgical and interventional simulation systems Interventional tracking and navigation Surgical planning and simulation Surgical visualization and mixed, augmented and virtual reality Digital twins and end-user development in biomedicine Interventional software and user interfaces Physiological models Dr. Elena Casiraghi Dr. Barbara Barricelli Guest Editors -- Mr. Blink Yu Managing Editor E-Mail: blink.yu at mdpi.com Skype: live:c91693ac8277e1f0 -- MDPI Wuhan Office No.6 Jingan Road, 430064 Wuhan, China MDPI Postfach, CH-4020 Basel, Switzerland http://www.mdpi.com -- Disclaimer: MDPI recognizes the importance of data privacy and protection. Message-ID: ===================================================================== The IEEE International Conference on Cloud Engineering (IC2E) April 21-24, 2020, Sydney, Australia Website: https://conferences.computer.org/IC2E/2020/ ===================================================================== Call for Papers The IEEE International Conference on Cloud Engineering (IC2E) is targeted to be a premier conference on cloud computing, which represents a paradigm shift for the use and delivery of information technology (IT) and has been revolutionizing the support of on-demand access, economies of scale, and dynamic sourcing options. IC2E provides a high-quality and comprehensive forum, where researchers and practitioners can exchange information on engineering principles, enabling technologies, and practical experiences related to cloud computing. The conference brings together experts who work on different levels of the cloud stack—systems, storage, networking, platforms, databases, and applications. IC2E offers an end-to-end view on the challenges and technologies in cloud computing, fosters research that addresses the interaction between different layers of the stack, and ultimately helps shape the future of cloud-transformed business and society. IC2E-2020 invites submissions of high-quality research papers describing fully-developed results, and ongoing foundational and applied work related to all aspects of cloud engineering. The program committee will interpret “cloud engineering” very broadly—everything from engineering principles to practical experiences, at and across different levels of the cloud stack, from both academia and industry. --------------TOPICS-------------- We particularly encourage submissions on topics of emerging interest in the research and development communities. Kind regards, Blink Yu Section Managing Editor --- Dear Colleagues, Education is evolving to overcome new challenges related to the unique competencies of the professionals of the future and the requirements of a new generation that is immersed in the digital media world from birth. Digital Games is one of the media that have the potential to reach these two objectives. Game-based learning is the scientific area that focuses on the development of games that are designed over specific learning objectives. From thoroughly crafted educational games to the use of gamification, the new era of the school will be digital. However, we should not forget tangential learning with the use of entertainment games. Mobile games are also leveraging a large community of gamers that relies on the specifics of mobile technology, such as ubiquity and pervasiveness. The solutions can leverage informal learning, literacy, science communication, and citizenship, among a vast area of applications. The aim of this Special Issue is to disclose the new advances in game-based learning and mobile games that can enhance the effectiveness and outreach of learning objects. Topics of interest include but are not limited to the following: Game-based learning; Serious games; Mobile games; Pervasive games; Learning models and practices with the use of games; New technologies for game-based learning: Virtual and augmented reality; New interaction devices, toys, and playthings; Simulations; 3D rendering technologies; Game engines and development tools; Location-based games; Artificial intelligence; Educational games analytics; Assessment and evaluation of educational games; User experience design; The psychology of educational games; Gender and age issues; Social and collaborative games; Security and confidentiality in educational games; Case studies in educational games; Game development for mobile devices.
