The call is happening in less than an hour, at 1400 UTC. We are using meetpad for the call, you can dial in using this link: https://meetpad.opendev.org/osf-edge-computing-group For further information about the meeting and the working group, please visit this wiki: https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Edge_Computing_Group#Meetings Thanks, Ildikó ——— Ildikó Váncsa Ecosystem Technical Lead Open Infrastructure Foundation > On Feb 26, 2021, at 19:02, Ildiko Vancsa wrote: > > Hi, > > It is a friendly reminder to join us at the working group’s weekly call next Monday (March 01) at 1400 UTC for the presentation from INRIA about their evaluation work around OpenStack and containers for edge, followed by a discussion. > > You can find more information about the meeting here: https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Edge_Computing_Group#Meetings > > Thanks and Best Regards, > Ildikó > > ——— > > Ildikó Váncsa > Ecosystem Technical Lead > Open Infrastructure Foundation > > > >> On Feb 23, 2021, at 09:55, Ildiko Vancsa wrote: >> >> Hi, >> >> I would like to draw your attention to the weekly call on March 1st. That modularization helps programmers to cope with the complexity of distributed infrastructures. The externalization of the application life-cycle management (deployment, monitoring, scaling, etc.) from the business logic is a perfect example. >> >> With the arrival of the edge computing paradigm, new challenges arise for applications: How to benefit from geo-distribution? In this approach, an instance of the application is deployed on each edge location and a generic mechanism enables DevOps to recompose, on demand, the different services of these application instances in order to give the illusion of a single application instance. Our proposal requires some extensions to be complete. However, we present its relevance on a real use-case: OpenStack for the Edge. Thanks to this approach, DevOps can make multiple autonomous instances of OpenStack collaborative to >> manage a geo-distributed infrastructure. >> >> >> Please join us next week to attend the presentation and participate in the discussion about the topic. >> >> You can find the meeting details here: https://wiki.openstack.org/wiki/Edge_Computing_Group#Meetings >> >> Please let me know if you have any questions. >> >> Thanks, >> Ildikó >> >> ——— >> >> Ildikó Váncsa >> Ecosystem Technical Lead >> Open Infrastructure Foundation >> >> >> >> >> _______________________________________________ >> Edge-computing mailing list >> Edge-computing at lists.openstack.org >> http://lists.openstack.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/edge-computing > > > _______________________________________________ > Edge-computing mailing list > Edge-computing at lists.openstack.org > http://lists.openstack.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/edge-computing From ildiko at openstack.org Mon Mar 1 17:36:59 2021 From: ildiko at openstack.org (Ildiko Vancsa) Date: Mon, 1 Mar 2021 18:36:59 +0100 Subject: [Edge-computing] Slides from today's presentation from INRIA Message-ID: <56F4A008-7CE9-483D-89D2-5CC1FA14F014@openstack.org> Hi, Today with had a presentation from INRIA, delivered by Marie Delavergne. The topic of the presentation was an approach to edge deployments to be able to share data and resources between edge sites. In the evaluation work the sites were separate standalone OpenStack instances. The prerequisite of this approach is to have a platform that has a modular architecture. You can find the slides with the list of challenges and details of the solution here: http://people.rennes.inria.fr/Adrien.Lebre/PUBLIC/OpenStack-EdgeWG-STACK.pdf The group’s roadmap includes making their solution agnostic to be able to use it with Kubernetes and other projects as well. As edge sites can get very small they also plan to include IoT and other end devices as well in their scope. If you have any questions or would like to discuss the topic further please reply to this thread. You can also reach out to Marie directly, her contact info is in the slides above. I participated in putting together this report as one of the editors. The document is a great overview of where edge computing is in terms of challenges and solutions as well as giving some market insights. As the US went through the daylight savings switch yesterday the meeting time in UTC is __1300 UTC starting today__. As a reminder, the next PTG is happening at __April 19-23, 2021__. On previous PTGs we opted for having 2x2 hours and 1x3 hours booked on 3 consecutive days starting at 1300 UTC. These blocks provide the best coverage around the globe. If we follow the same scheme this time around as well that would give us the following time slots: * Monday, April 19 - 1300 UTC - 1500 UTC * Tuesday, April 20 - 1300 UTC - 1500 UTC * Wednesday, April 21 - 1300 UTC - 1600 UTC For potential agenda items we were thinking about the following: * Reference Architecture discussion * New use cases * Broadcasting * Manufacturing * Storage discussion - requirements and solutions * Cross-community collaboration * CNCF groups * LF Edge * GSMA Edge We are collecting ideas and feedback on this etherpad: https://etherpad.opendev.org/p/ecg-ptg-april-2021 If you have any other topic ideas or feedback on the proposed time slots please add them to the etherpad or reply to this mail thread. We will __decide on the time slots on the weekly next Monday, March 22 at 1300 UTC__. We will keep on working on the agenda till the event in April.
