Hey Lars, great progress on installing the CNV cluster. As I understand, the next step would involve tearing it down and installing it again, to see if the install playbooks are good. I wonder if we should involve the OpenShift Hive folks at some point? https://github.com/openshift/hive/blob/master/docs/using-hive.md#create-clu… In the spirit of upstream collaboration, they could point on of their hive servers to setup CNV on MOC. marcel

We want to help you brand this project and would like to gather your ideas before venturing too far down the logo development process. There are a few obvious possibilities for the visual identity (e.g., laboratory equipment, scientific things, symbols related to testing, etc.) but maybe you have some unique ideas that would better represent the project. Hi all, We have been discussing open cloud monitoring as part of the weekly meetings and associated with the NERC (New England Research Cloud) Architecture (Gitlab <https://gitlab.com/open-infrastructure-labs/nerc-architecture>). We are looking to develop the user stories and requirements over the next few weeks. Note that the discussion is general and not limited to NERC specifics, any stories or requirements relevant to open source cloud monitoring are fair game. We thought that using an email thread could be beneficial for people provide their input and ideas and to discuss and even work out user stories and requirements. Below are some general roles and areas of monitoring that may be needed. It's only a starter not by any means meant to be complete and immutable. Consider it food for thought and discussion. Cloud owner - Need to monitor cloud usage for accounting, charging - Need to monitor historical usage for planning for future expansion - Needs visibility to issues (problem reports) generated by users - Logging information that may point to emerging hardware issues - Security and compliance information - Revision status of hardware and software Cloud Operators / Administrators and operator tools (such as AIOPs) - Dashboard view of the cloud, showing utilization, workloads, issues - Low level events that will need immediate operator attention (hardware / power failure, platform crashes, network outages) - Alerts generated from ongoing operations via events, metrics and logging - View of current health of cloud hardware (cpu load, memory usage / swapping, errors) - View of performance of various aspects (memory consumption, load averages, swapping, networking, storage) Cloud users - View of their workloads - View of overall cloud health and capacity Hope this helps get the conversation going! cheers, Bill

We did not decide on an agenda for this week – rather than a complete cancelation lets do ½ hour with a very focused agenda of: 1. Topics for next 3 meetings (starter list below) 2. Assuming I get through a relisten today, will pick out some timeslots for various volunteers to take and convert into epics/stories – will discuss tomorrow 3. Starter list of topics: 1. Current HPC tooling for monitoring/reporting (chargeback, showback, hw inventory) that NERC needs to connect into. (I’ve asked some of the folk on the first call with deep HPC experience for feedback/timing so maybe not May 20th.) 2. Deeper dive on specific sw components where decisions will need to be made, eg. long term storage of data 3. Assumption – we are gonna with Prometheus – if so, do we need a session outlining the exporters we need to develop to meet NERC requirements (item 1 from above) 4. Other topics?
