Hello everyone,
One thing that we end up doing periodically in zuul-jobs is bumping the default version value in roles that install tools/platforms like python, java, go, and so on. When we do this we typically send a two week warning to zuul-announce to be sure users have a chance to update their use of the roles before the value changes under them. Other users have often already explicitly set a default value where they use these roles because they need newer versions of tools.
This has me …
[View More]wondering if it might be more appropriate to stop setting those values in zuul-jobs roles entirely and instead force users of these roles to be explicit about the version they want to use. Then we don't have this ongoing bookkeeping task of bumping things periodically on the zuul-jobs side. As a bonus users are less likely to break if they miss an important email.
Maybe we start doing this with any new roles, and if that works out well formulate a plan to update all of the existing roles? We would need to communicate this change broadly as chance of impact is high. We will also likely need to suggest plans for Zuul installations to accommodate this change. One idea that came up in Matrix is to suggest individual Zuul projects can set these values as project vars.
Curious to hear if others think this is a great idea or a terrible one or something in between.

Hello :)
I wanted to take a moment to invite project maintainers, core contributors,
PTLs, governance officials, etc to a meet the projects (projects being the
OIF top level ones- Kata, Zuul, OpenStack, StarlingX, and Airship) session
during the Forum at the upcoming Summit in Berlin. It will take place Tue,
June 7, 11:20am - 12:30pm local in A - A06.
The idea is to gather in a single place so that newer members of the
community or people unfamiliar with the project can come and meet some of
…
[View More]the active participants and ask questions. It's all really informal so
there is no need to prepare anything ahead of time.
I realize it is pretty late in everyone's planning their schedules for the
summit, but if you have a few minutes to spare to come hang out and meet
some people and network, please do! We would love to see you there.

Hello,
We developed a proof of concept service called zuul-weeder to help us
analyze the configuration loaded in a Zuul service.
Please find the initial release announcement:
https://www.softwarefactory-project.io/introducing-zuul-weeder.html
You can setup zuul-weeder by running this command:
podman run -p 9001:9001 -v /etc/zuul:/etc/zuul:ro --rm quay.io/software-factory/zuul-weeder
We'd be happy to get your feedback and extend the interface for your needs:
https://github.com/…

If it makes sense, we'd be happy to contribute the project
to the Zuul organization.
Kind Regards,
-Tristan

Hello everyone,
The Foundation is currently collecting Project Update Videos from each OpenInfra community to showcase what each projects has accomplished in ~the last year. These videos will be hosted on the Foundation youtube channel and promoted at the Summit. If Zuul is interested in participating we've been asked to produce a short (no more than 10 minutes) recorded presentation by May 27th.
There is an understanding that the lead up to the Summit can be quite busy for many of us, and if …
[View More]Zuul would like to participate but can't get a recording done in that timeframe there will be another round of project update promotion after the Summit. Expect a reminder for that mid June if we don't get a video done by May 27.
What that means for us is we need to decide if we would like to produce such a video at all, and if so determine if we're aiming for pre or post summit uploading. I'm happy to help facilitate this as much as I can (get it to the hands of the Foundation and transcode as necessary for them), but I'm not sure I can be the one to do the recording itself. Let me know what you think and I'll pass it along to the Foundation.

Hi,
I would like to remind all Zuul users that shared queues should now be
declared at the project level and not at project-pipeline. Declaring
them in project-pipelines has been deprecated since version 4.1.0[1],
and we will remove that syntax in the next major release (v7). This
removal could cause significant disruption if you continue to use the
deprecated syntax.
To illustrate, that means that a current project definition which
appears like this:
- project:
name: foo
…
[View More] gate:
queue: shared
jobs: [...]
Should be changed to:
- project:
name: foo
queue: shared
gate:
jobs: [...]
We have provided a script[2] which you can run against the Zuul API to
find instances of this in your configuration. I recommend running it
and resolving those instances ASAP; there is no reason to wait.

Hello again,
Zuul has a Bitergia contribution metrics dashboard hosted at https://zuul.biterg.io. There is some hope we might be able to use this information to show interesting Zuul stats at the Summit. One of the ideas I had was maybe we can show how Zuul v5 progressed over time.
To do that with as much accuracy as possible it would be great if we can ensure our affiliation information is up to date. If you navigate to Community -> Affiliations from the landing page you should be able to …
[View More]double check your own affiliations are correct. You can't currently update them in that system, but if you email me directly or message me on Matrix I will do what I can to correct the info. There are a small number instances where the info is out of date, and I'll reach out to those I recognize in that situation to see about correcting the info.
If you've got any ideas for what might be interesting to show feel free to share them as well.
